Sweet and Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

Sweet and Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

Who would have ever thought that chickpeas (also known as Garbanzo Beans) could be so mouth popping delicious?  When roasted they have such a wonderful crispy texture.  These are fantastic by themselves and add a great crouton crunch to salads.

It’s an easy way to get a veggie into you (minus butter or ranch) and your child. P.S. it’s a healthy snack that doesn’t leave orange fingerprints on your couch.

Ingredients:

1 can garbanzo beans

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp sugar

1/8 tsp cayenne

1/8 tsp salt

1 tbsp honey (optional)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Rinse and set to dry on paper towels.  Lightly coat cooking tray with non stick cooking spray.  Roast garbanzo beans for 30-40 minutes depending on oven.  When beans have a deep golden brown look and are crunchy, not soft, remove from oven and drizzle with olive oil.  Mix cinnamon, sugar, cayenne and salt together and sprinkle on garbanzo beans.  Drizzle honey on them for an extra yummy sweetness.  Enjoy!

Per the Mayo Clinic:

Legumes — a class of vegetables that includes beans, peas and lentils — are among the most versatile and nutritious foods available. Legumes are typically low in fat, contain no cholesterol, and are high in folate, potassium, iron and magnesium. They also contain beneficial fats and soluble and insoluble fiber. A good source of protein, legumes can be a healthy substitute for meat, which has more fat and cholesterol.

  1. This sounds amazing! I am always hunting for good snack items that can be made at home, and this is definitely one that looks like it is worth a try!

    1. Bethany,
We are too and this one is a keeper! We also tried popcorn flavorings like white cheddar and it was yummy too. We tried it after the post was up or we would have included it. Thank you for following our blog.
