Tangled Birthday Party

Tangled Birthday Party

Phew!  It’s over!  This has been the biggest, behind the scene birthday party to date.  If you want more information leave a comment and I will bore give you more detail.

This tower is 21 donuts high.  When all was said and done it ended up being around 3 feet 7 inches tall.  The kids couldn’t believe it.  I placed it on my island for dramatic purposes.  It truly “towered” over them!

To try to maintain some order,  I had three different stations set up.  Two were games, one was a craft.  We rotated the kids between stations to keep them engaged.  I bought several small items as prizes for the games.  They got to choose between: pencils, bouncy balls, bubbles, play dough, bracelets, erasers, stickers and finger puppets.

The first game was a “Pin the Pan on Flynn”.  We blindfolded the kids with a sleeping mask and had them try to pan Flynn in the face.

The “Maximus Apple Toss” was next.  Can you see how cute the apple bean bags are?  Sending a shout out to my friend Debra for hooking me up with those.  (Learning to sew is on my Resolution list)

The last station was the lantern craft.  All you need is heavyweight construction paper, scissors, crayons and stickers.  They are so simple.  Fold the construction paper in half.  Cut, (starting at the fold) across the paper stopping about an inch before the edge. There were roughly 5 to 6 evenly spaced lines per paper.   I had the kids decorate the lanterns with sticker and crayons.  Didn’t they turn out cute?  The kids absolutely loved them!

I placed a paint set (Remember Rapunzel was a painter) in sacks for the kids.   I used a mailing label to stick on the paints, thanking the kids for coming to the party.  They placed all their prizes, the coloring page and donut remainders in their sack to spare us from the whines of who’s prize was who’s.

All the kids had a blast.  I am tired, but luckily it’s a family tradition to go out to dinner to a place of the birthday person’s choice.

    1. It’s simply a dowel you can get at Home Depot or a craft store. Ours was 3/8″ in size, but I’d recommend trying to get something just a bit thicker.
I then attached the dowel to a piece of thin plywood with a screw and some wood glue, then let it dry overnight. Then I drilled a 3/8″ hole in a spare cabinet door we had laying around (any 1/2″ thick and maybe 2′ X 2′ square piece of wood would do) and pushed the dowel through the bottom and then screwed the small plywood to the underside of the cabinet door. That made it much more sturdy. The thickness of the cabinet door helped anchor the dowel as well and made the whole structure stronger. Make sure the width of your dowel is the same as the size hole you drill in the thicker piece of wood. A bigger hole will not hold the dowel as well and doesn’t provide nearly the support as a tighter fit.

    1. I downloaded a high resolution photo of Maximus from the internet. I googled ‘high resolution photo of Maximus from Tangled, then emailed it to Costco’s photo department. The higher the resolution the better it will turn out. Costco will give you options for dimensions. The photo was about $5.00. I glued the picture to a piece of posterboard with spray glue that can be purchaed from any art and craft store. The poster was about $5.00. My neighbor actually made the bean bag apples for me. They are just made of felt cut in an apple shape. Hope that helped. Have fun!

        1. Melissa,
Hi! Thank you for checking out our Tangled birthday party! To make a lantern all you need to do is
fold a piece of your favorite scrap book paper in half horizontally. It doesn’t matter if it’s 8 1/2 by 11 or larger, but it can’t be square. Snip the paper about every inch or so from the fold in the middle to about 1 to 1 1/2 inches from the top (the edge that doesn’t have the fold). When you’ve finished that, open the paper and connect the two edges vertically and staple them together. (You could add a trim of another contrasting paper along the top and bottom before you staple it together). When you have them stapled, add ribbon or string to make it a hangable lantern.
          Good luck!

  1. Hi! I love your site! I am planning a Tangled Birthday Party for my daughter’s 5th Birthday and was planning to do a donut tower AND a Rapunzel doll cake (with the dress pan) BUT I like how you have incorporated Rapunzel into the top of the tower! I can’t figure out what is above the donuts that she is sitting inside though? Can you tell me what is above the donuts and how Rapunzel is placed at the top? Thanks so much!

    1. Krista,

I’ll e-mail the photo to you if you’d like it. It’s the actual picture cut out with slits cut in it to make the shutters, and then stapled. My niece made a cone and drew bricks on it for the top of the tower.
Thank you for following. We hope to have more fun party ideas in the future.

  2. Hi would u mind sharing the size of the poster board used for the maximus game and Flynn ryder? I was curious for the maximus game. I tried looking but it looked like I had to tape two pieces of the poster board together. Thank you

    1. I used the 11×14 poster size from Costco. I spray glued the poster onto a foam poster board of the same size. You can find the foam poster boards at any local craft store. I happened to find mine at the dollar store. Good luck!

  3. I just wanted to say thank you for the ideas!!! We may do a tangled theme for my daughter’s birthday in a few months! I love the bean bag toss/apple game and the pin the pan on flynn also! Thank you again 🙂

  4. I am so glad I found you! I am throwing a Tangled themed birthday party for my daughter Riley’s 5th birthday in January and am looking for game ideas! You mentioned sacks for the children’s goodies. Where did you get those? Thanks!!!

    1. I’m glad you found us too! I got the sacks at Target in their gift wrapping isle. They come in a bundle. Good luck!

  5. Hello! Just wanted you to know I made your cupcake tower for my daughter’s 5th birthday! There were a few things we learned about the tower, that I thought others may want to know if they try to make it!
    1) We used the flat part of a mason jar lid (with an X mark cut in the center) between every 6th doughnut. We slid it down over the dowel. This helped the weight of all the doughnuts.
    2) Under the lid we used a bunch of scotch tape around the dowel to keep the lid in place!
    Here’s a pic! http://laotzucycles.blogspot.com/2013/01/cinco-de-maya.html?spref=fb
    Thanks for the fun idea!!

    1. What a great idea! Thank you for checking out our blog. You’re nice to give us some feedback.

  6. You actually make it seem so easy along with your presentation however I in finding this topic to be really something
which I think I might by no means understand. It sort of feels too complex and very huge for me.
I’m taking a look ahead to your next submit, I’ll try to get the grasp of it!
